2011 SAG Awards Fashion Face-Off

Award shows are so fun!!
We get to watch celebrities walk the red carpet wearing gorgeous gowns and dapper suits. It’s always great to see what your favorite celebrity is wearing and if your favorite celeb is a curvy girl, you keep your fingers crossed and hope her stylist and team got it right.
Last night was the 2011 SAG (Screen Actors Guild) Awards and some of your favorite celebs left us speechless with their gown choices.
We’ve selected some of our favorite gowns but had a hard time deciding which gown we liked the most.   We’ve decided to make you the Fashion Police so make us proud and let us know which gown made you proud or let you down!

Black on Black Gowns

Christina Hendricks wore a sexy black gown by L’Wren Scott.  She paired the long sleeve, side slit dress with peep toe pumps and silver hoops.
Amber Riley opted for fitted black gown that accentuated her curves. The mermaid effect and floral applique made this romantic yet dramatic look stand out.  She finished the look with a vibrant pink lip.

Ladies In Red

As one of our favorite looks of the evening, Mila Kunis looked amazing wearing this strapless gown from Alexander McQueen’s 2010 resort collection.  She kept her makeup and accessories simple.
Tina Fey traded her funny one-liners for a glammed up red Oscar de la Renta gown. The intricate floral embroidery makes the dress very romantic and her natural makeup and simple bun complete the look.

Colors That Pop

Sofia Vergara looks ultraglam in this lovely blue, curve loving gown from  Roberto Cavalli. She finishes the look with a diamond cuff and free-flowing waves, dramatic eyes and simple lips.
Kim Kardashian is wearing a gorgeous plum draped chiffon gown with embroidered detail by Marchesa.  Drop earrings accents to this beautiful gown nicely.  A shorter, softer hairstyle and soft makeup finishes the look.

Skimpy shorts for January? Flippy skirts for February, anyone?
Hold on to your (bobble) hats, we’re officially in the season of ‘win-sum’ – that tricky fashion limboland where we hover aimlessly between old winter and new summer trends.
Witnessing the onset of a new spring season is refreshing after a frightfully cold winter swamped in oversized woollies and giant coats.
But don’t panic if you’re not prepared for those flimsy fashions. Transition dressing is all about tackling ‘win-sum’ head-on with between-season tactics.
Make like Coco Chanel, who once said: “I am against fashion that doesn’t last. I cannot accept that you throw your clothes away just because it is spring.”
Instead, merge your seasonal trends effortlessly with some stylish mix-and-match.
  • Get trend selective
“When we need to make the transition between heavy winter wear to fun flirty spring, get ahead of the pack with the Seventies revival,” suggests celebrity stylist Chris Leger at www.stylistpick.com
“The high street is brimming with ankle-skimming skirts, wide leg trousers and floppy velvet hats.”
And the good news is that with long lengths firmly in vogue, you don’t require any flesh-baring bravery to pull them off.
  • Neutral know-how
Even if you’re still rocking chunky knits, dig out neutral-only colours to instantly put a spring in your step.
Go top-to-toe and mix up beige, white and pale grey tones.
Leger says: “Stores are packed with this sophisticated and effortlessly simple palette of nudes.
“Easy to wear, look for minimal sheer shirts, long softy pleated skirts, flesh-tone leather shorts and silky fluid dresses. Complete the look with sharp pointed nude skyscraper heels or barely-there beige pumps.”
  • Dabble in denim
Free yourself from the winter wardrobe heavies with one of your trusty staples.
“If you can’t wait to ditch the bulky pea coats, thick cable jumpers and dowdy layers then embrace spring’s best friend, denim,” says Leger.
Experiment with a new flattering fit of jeans – high-waisted are bang on trend for spring – or delve into denim nirvana and try out new separates.
“It’s the fabric of choice this season with washed-out denim jackets, dark denim buttoned-down skirts and perfectly faded denim shirts,” Leger reveals.
  • Inject colours
“Don’t get left behind the fashion crowd, grab this season’s brightest trend, colour,” Leger advises.
“Every high-octane shade is acceptable this season, from bold blues, garish greens, radiant reds and neon yellows.”
If you’re not ready to embrace the brights just yet, try a subtle suggestion of colour with a standout accessory like a scarf, bag or shoes in your favourite shade.
  • Transition tips
  • Ditch the winter coat and invest in a classic mac or trench. Choose a bright/light shade or print to freshen up every ensemble.
  • Wear your favourite floral summer dress now and team with a chunky knit cardigan and dark tights until you’re ready to bare more flesh.
  • Make dark classics new season modern with offbeat colour styling. Zing up a dark suit with a fuchsia scarf or orange belt for a subtle nod to spring.
  • Stash the dark, glitzy jewellery that sparkled over the festive season and replace with spring-appropriate, ethnic-inspired, floral-themed or shimmering bronze pieces.
  • Love trousers? Skinny olive green cargo pants can be dressed up or down and will work equally as well in winter, spring and beyond.

Reah’s Favourite Trends for Spring Transition

Reah Norman is a fashion and product stylist with over 10 years professional experience in the fashion industry. She is the Executive Fashion Director for PLUS Model Magazine, where she oversees all the fashion within the magazine, as well as styles and coordinates the photo shoots that take place on the west coast of America.
Reah is also proud and honoured to have been recently named the Plus Fashion Stylist of the Year for 2010 by Full Figured Fashion Week.  Here she shares with us her favourite trends for the upcoming spring season.
Spring transition can be a very tricky time in fashion and very often my clients ask me what is appropriate to wear during these transitional months before spring is in full swing.  At this point, we have put away our sequins, satin and velvet from our winter wardrobes, but we are not quite ready for our sandals and sundresses.  In order to make it super effortless and take the guessing out of getting dressed for spring transition, I have put together some of my favorite items from Evan’s to highlight my three favorite trends that you can wear right now!

Neutrals are an absolute must have this time of year.  These basic items are subtle, understated, easy to mix and match, and help bring us back to centre after all of the holiday dazzle.  The best thing about neutrals is that they are timeless and versatile, so you can wear them well into the spring and summer months.
Get the look…
1- Beige Floral Hanky Hem Jumper, Black Jersey Side Leggings, Multi-Strap Buckle Platforms, 3 Flower Fabric Clips, Enamel Swirl Ring
2- Mink Pin Tuck Blouse, Tan Soft Brogues, Floral Zip Flap Purse, Mixed Stone Ring
3- Mocha Pocket Woven Shirt, Mink Drapery Utility Trouser, Beige Biker Boot, Sodamix Tassel Bag, Silver Lariat Necklace, 3 Band Wrapped Rings

The nautical trend is the absolute classic for spring transition that is seen, without a doubt, every year at this time. I love this trend because it is based on the resort/holiday lifestyle, and it is clean, crisp and looks very fresh.  Navy and white mixed with stripes, yellow, red and pops of gold are easy to wear both everyday or on a holiday.
Get the look…
1- Red 3/4 Sleeve Button Down Shirt, Navy Sheen Short Mac, Taupe Twill Trouser, Navy Chiffon Bow Ballerinas, Metal Twist Band Ring
2- Navy and White Stripe Top, Navy Jeggings, Gold Long Dome Ring, Bronze Ballerinas
3- Cross Front Swimsuit, White Linen Crop, Gold Toe Post Sandals
4- Red Swing Jacket, Indigo Bootcut Jean, Blue Low Wedge Courts, Gold Circle Cuff

Floral prints and accessories are being seen everywhere this time of year, in endless colors, prints, styles.  Most of the florals we are currently seeing are more muted colors and smaller ditsy prints, and as we move into the spring and summer months we will see these timeless prints become larger, brighter and more saturated.  Enjoy wearing these fabulous, small, muted ditsy prints now with leggings, jeans, flats, boots, and a cute cardigan, and layer your winter jacket on top if it’s still a bit chilly.
Get the look…
1- Praslin Floral Print Sleeveless Top, Magenta Longline Cardigan, Clean Black Bootcut Jean, Giant Metal Flower Ring, Bronze Laser Cut Shoe Bootie
2- Ditsy Jersey Shirt, Clean Black Bootcut Jean, Black Aviator Jacket, Dome Ring, Stud and Buckle Pixie Boot
3- Floral Hanky Hem Top, Mink Hareem Trouser, Khaki Ankle Lace Up Boot, Rose Stud Earring
4- 3/4 Sleeve Floral Longline Top, Praslin Waterfall Cardigan, Mink Hareem Trouser, Black Ring Detail Heeled Clog, Stone Floral Cutwork Bag

7 Makeup Tips to Steal From Kim & Kourtney Kardashian

When we first heard that Kim and Kourtney Kardashian were filming a new reality show in New York City, we wondered if the sisters, who are known for sporting a smoky eye everywhere from the airport to the nail salon, would tone down their Hollywood-glam look while residing on the more understated east coast.
PHOTOS: Kourtney and Kim hit the Big Apple

But after watching the premiere of Kourtney & Kim Take New York on Sunday night, it appears that more is still more when it comes to their makeup...and we think that's a good thing since the girls looked pretty freaking fabulous (even at the gym!). Here, the Kardashians NYC makeup artist, Troy Surratt, reveals their secrets:

1. Play up all of your features. "The Kardashian sisters know the power of glam and aren't afraid to accentuate and capitalize on every feature," Surratt tells UsMagazine.com. That means paying attention to your eyes, cheeks and lips instead of just focusing on one of them.

2. Make friends with foundation. Many girls avoid foundation because they think it looks fake, says Surratt, but the right formula and technique will give your skin a flawless appearance. First, apply a lightweight gel-cream base like Dior DiorSkin Nude Natural Glow Crème-Gel ($48, sephora.com) with a foundation brush. Then, pat it into your skin with a makeup sponge.

3. Warm up your skin. When applying bronzer, create a triangle shape by blending it around your hairline (at the temples), on your cheekbones and down to your chin. "This draws all of the light to the center of your face," says Surratt who recommends Shiseido Oil-Free Bronzer ($35, nordstrom.com).

4. Enhance your bone structure. Smile and add a pop of pink blush to the fullest area of your cheek. Then, dab a shimmery highlighter over the blush as well as on your cheekbones to make them look more prominent. Surratt uses Dolce & Gabanna The Blush Luminous Cheek Colour in Provocative ($44, saksfifthavenue.com) with Mally Beauty in Life is Lighter ($40, mallybeauty.com).

5. Fake it. "False eyelashes are like beams of sunlight emitting from your eyes," says Surratt, who notes that Kim frequently wears them to make her eyes look big and bright. "Long, full lashes are flirtatious and feminine."

6. Soften smoky eyes. Ever wonder how the Kardashians manage to pull off a smoky eye in the afternoon? "I rim the inner and upper lash lines with Stila Kajal pencil in black, then I blend a rich brown eye shadow over the liner to make it warmer and softer," Surratt tells Us.

7. Line your lips. When you're doing a nude lip, you should always define your mouth first with a pencil, says Surratt. "Otherwise, your lips will disappear into your skin." He uses Kevyn Aucoin The Flesh Tone Lip Pencil ($24, kevynaucoindirect.com) topped with LipFusion Color Shine gloss ($38, sephora.com) on Kourtney and Kim.

Gaga’s Fragrance Will Reportedly Smell Like “Blood and Semen

You can’t make this stuff up.
According to sources in the fragrance industry hired to develop Lady Gaga‘s first fragrance, the pop star has requested that the scent “smell of blood and semen.”
The idea is mildly shocking, but Gaga is not the first person to think of it.
Rad Hourani, who recently created a fragrance for Six Scents, listed semen as a source of inspiration.
To Gaga’s nose: We’re not so sure how to recreate the scent of blood, but here’s a suggestion for the semen: The pollen of Callery Pear or Bradford Pear trees.

Natural makeup 'playful and brighter' for spring

Spring is on its way and with it, a return to fun, colourful natural makeup trends, according to an expert.

Zara Rabinowicz, editor of Kiss & Makeup, said that this spring will see bold shades make a comeback, with "a return to the neon lip" predicted.

She explained: "Makeup will be more playful and brighter and people will be less wary of using something different. We'll have more paint box-style applications, with less emphasis on brushes and application."

Ms Rabinowicz added that natural hair care trends will see lots of texture, with braids, "old-school crimping" and other techniques being used to create an "unstructed but involved" look.

Last month, Sharon Forrester told Vogue readers that this year promises to be full of colour, with pastels and eye-popping bright organic cosmetics taking centre stage.

Mark Hill recently added that soft, sexy waves and plaits will be seen everywhere, from the catwalk to the high street.

Feeling & Looking Great Without Breaking the Bank

Feeling and looking great can be achieved on a budget with the assistance of a little creativity and a positive outlook.
Women are very good at denying themselves luxuries, as well as some necessities, in order to make ends meet. The problem is, when a woman cuts out key items of her beauty and wellness regimen — makeup, skin care, her gym membership, etc. – it will definitely have an impact on how she feels about herself. Her self-confidence can plummet and her sense of well-being can be negatively affected. It can affect her job, her friendships and even her relationships. That’s why I think it’s important for women to find ways to replace some of the more costly personal care activities with budget-conscious substitutes.
Women who routinely take care of themselves, tend to feel more confident and possess better self-esteem, which will reflect positively at work and at home. Here are tips for beauty and wellness on a budget:
  • Skincare – One of the first things that people cut out when the recession hit was spending money on cosmetic procedures like botox injections and high end anti-aging creams. However, you absolutely don’t have to spend a fortune on high-end skin care to see results. There are over-the-counter products available that use very similar and just as effective ingredients as those sold at the dermatologist’s offices and plastic surgeon’s offices. When shopping for cosmetics online or from your local representative, look for products that contain ingredients such as Retinol, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, and Matrixyl, and you’ll see great results without the exorbitant cost.
  • Makeup – When using a great affordable skin care line, exceeding your budget on your makeup is unnecessary. Radiant skin calls for light foundations and maybe a great powder to complete your look. Try a great tinted moisturizer with an SPF and a mineral pressed powder. And don’t forget, a beautiful shade of lipstick or lip gloss is an instant pick me up for your look and your mood.  There are so many options when it comes to makeup.  I recommend never doing without, but spending top dollar on high end names just isn’t necessary.
  • Working Out – When the recession hit, many women eliminated their gym memberships, but you don’t need a gym to stay fit. Pop in a workout DVD, take a jog around the block, or work out at home with a pair of dumbbells and a jumprope. Exercise releases essential endorphins, which contribute to a great sense of well being.
Confidence will always work in your favor, in every aspect of life.  When you let yourself go without the little things that can help boost your look and your mood, the rest of your life suffers in little, but meaningful, ways. Sometimes that little extra boost of energy and confidence can help you get noticed by your supervisors at work, or by that new guy in accounting with the nice smile. Just because you have to cut back on your expenses, it doesn’t mean you have to cut back on your investment in yourself. Getting through the rough economic times isn’t just about the quality of your income, but also about the quality of your life — and you can have both.

Here are five fresh spring 2011 makeup colors that are sure to turn up the heat pronto.

Lip Service—Coral kissers are the rock-solid shade of the season. Dive in with a super-saturated orange, or ease in with softer coral-meets-peach shades. Either end of the spectrum is a chic way to reinvent the statement lip.

Let’s do away with the term, “Plus Size”

Do we really need to continue to use the term, “plus size” in fashion these days?  I mean, how degrading…who wants to be called “plus size” anyway?  And what size is “plus size”?
These days “plus size” has been used in the fashion world so randomly it is not clear what the true definition is or what size it represents.  Wikipedia defines “plus size clothing” as a general term given to clothing proportioned specifically for overweight people.  In plus size only collections or brands the sizes typically range from sizes 16W-32W, but who would even know that when we so regularly you hear it applied to the most common size for American women…a size 14.  Fashion has made it a habit to call any size over a size 10, “plus size”.  That means that 63% of the women in America feel ashamed or uncomfortable in the world of fashion on a daily basis by being categorized by such a degrading term, “plus size”.
The other question is, why, if the most common size for women is a size 14, are there so few collections in fashion offered in sizes beyond a size 10?  Basic sense would tell you…if a majority of women are bigger than a size 10 than there would be many selections available in those higher sizes.  However, it is just the opposite…more and more is offered everyday for smaller and smaller sizes!
I think it is time fashion collections start offering broader size ranges and do away with the term “plus size”!  Let’s embrace the fact that women come in so many different shapes and sizes…that will never change and that is what makes women beautiful!
Tell me, what do you think?  Is the fashion industry changing?  Would it be nice to shop the same collections that carry a size 4 and 6?

True Curves promotes healthy lifestyles for real women with real curves and embraces the independent sensuality of full-figured women. True Curves presents True Sheroes a comic book series that introduces us to an entire galaxy of bold bodacious Sheroes determined to save the world from the destruction of the natural resources destroying the world. About Comic: The Sheroes are a race of super powered women from the planet Curva. Their planet is in the Nuvo system, the next galaxy over. Their Queen Sinesca, her twin sister Princess Sinecoo and survivors have come to Earth to seek refuge and help protect them from the Nuratu, a group of sadistic alien scientist. They are led by the evil Dr. Kraitin who only wants to enslave the planet and harness the planet’s energy for his own diabolic schemes. The Sheroes fear he may be heading here to earth. Before Dr. Kratin enslaved Queen Sinesca and Princess Sinecoo the planet had beautiful rich lands that were plentiful with all our natural resources. Now Dr. Kratin and his scientist have almost completely diminished all the resources and most of the lands have turned into wastelands from the battles. The planet is now unlivable for Sheroes draw their powers from those sources. The planet Earth is the closest in resemblance to their planet Curva. There are 16 known survivors. All remain in disguise for fear of the Nurato searching for them and they can’t let what happen to Curva happen to Earth.
“We are here to protect you. We are True Sheroes!”

H & M Set to Try Again With “INCLUSIVE” Plus Size Collection

Press Release below:
This spring H&M presents Inclusive – a one-off collection of colourful and feminine fashion with lots of attitude in a wider than usual range of sizes. The twenty pieces will be available in sizes 32-54 and will be sold exclusively through H&M Online from early March. The collection includes figure-flattering party dresses in 50’s styles with large polka dots and rose patterns, as well as skirts, tops, cardigans and lingerie following the same theme.
Personal Note:
H & M left a very sour taste, in many former plus size consumers mouths, when they pulled the small plus size sections out of their stores. No one past a size 16/18 or XL has been able to shop at an H & M store for years. With the INCLUSIVE line, they will attempt to make amends with the plus size consumer. Will they be reaching out and marketing to the woman they are making the clothing for? This remains to be seen! Stay tuned…

Dior
Lancome
Sephora(Atomic)
Givenchy (de las mejores)
Too Faced Lash Injection (no mancha si se moja)
