6 Easy Updos To Wear All Summer Long

Hair is definitely having a '70s-esque, long-and-down bohemian moment. Devoted to that as we are, there's also a perennial summer hair mandate that can't be ignored: You have to wear it up! Sophisticated but still accessible, an easy updo works for both a night out or a cute, keep-you-cool look. And, as a welcome change of pace from last year's ubiquitous top-knot, we've discovered some versatile updos that feel fresh. Just a few little tweaks and a traditional style is effortlessly revamped into a perfect, wear-it-now 'do—think romantic braids, easy waves, beachy buns, and elegantly messy twists. So, go ahead, summer; get all hot and steamy! We're ready.

Light and Airy—Rodney Cutler went for an airy updo at the Tadashi Shoji spring '11 show: Start by applying a texturizing spray to dry hair. Create a side-part, then pull hair back into two ponytails, one on top of the other (leaving the top section out). Apply a pomade to the top section, and curl hair starting at the roots in diagonal sections with a 1" curling iron. Brush out the top section to create waves. Twist the two ponytails together into a loose bun at the back and secure with bobby-pins.
