Celebrity Beauty: 4 Look-Cute Alternatives to Wearing Makeup

When it comes to shopping with a friend, hitting the gym or hanging with the kiddos, some celebs aren't that into wearing a full-face of makeup (feeding that hard-to-believe rumor that "they're just like us"). As for me, after a long week of "putting my face on" for the office, I use the weekends as an opportunity for my skin to take a breather and skip the makeup for big chunks of Saturday and Sunday. But like most gals, I still want to fall in the "cute" category--that's why I'm going to try at least one of these sweet yet still low-key celebrity hair and makeup looks:

Wear clothing in the red or pink family
Even when you don't have an ounce of blush or lipgloss on, wearing a bright pink or red top is universally flattering for skin tones. Notice how in this pic, the color of Jennifer Garner and AnnaLynne McCord's tops bring out the baby pink in their lips? I think there also might be a little something to the light bouncing off your clothes back onto your skin that makes you look a little more fresh and cheery too.

Throw on a pair of spectacles (real or fake!)
As our Smitten blogger, Rosemary, commented in yesterday's "Do You Wear ZERO Makeup To The Office? post," that on days she doesn't feel like putting on makeup for work, she throws on her eyeglasses and instantly feels more polished. Looks like celebs like Lauren Conrad and Amber Riley have taken suit with this idea and are totally cute while at it!

Invest in a few simple but stylish hats
I'm not a hat girl myself, but Jessica Biel looks lovely by using hats and caps as a staple in her no makeup weekend routine. Especially if your a day or two in between washes, a hat tucks away anything you don't want focused on.

Wrap a stylish summer scarf
A lightweight scarf casually tossed around your neck visually helps bring the focus downward and not to the makeup-less situation going on above the neck. An accessory like this always seems as if you tried harder to look pulled together than, of course, the three seconds it took to really do it!

So there you have it--even on no-fuss beauty days, you can still look put-together! How do you think these celebs looks sans makeup? What are some other ways you amp up other areas when you go makeup-less? Do you do something special with your hair? Do you make sure to extra-moisturize? Perhaps you play up your jewelry or other accessories?

No one rocks a smoky eye like a Kardashian, but, hey, we can all try, right? I bet more than a few of you could pull off this lovely purple-gray version Kim wore to the 13th Annual Super Saturday event (don't worry--I'll tell you how)...

From far away it mostly just looks great but when you get in close...
0802-purple-tone-smoky-eye-makeup_bd.jpg
...you see that there's a hint of purple going on here that softens the whole look ever so slightly and makes her eyes glow.

The best part is that she's really just got shadow dusted all around her eyes--close under her bottom lid and up almost under her eyebrow on top with a little shading going on in the creases with a darker gray. And there are two ways of going about getting a shade like this: 1) Either find a dark smoky purple that looks gray-ish or 2) Layer a dark purple over a gray and let them mix and mingle.

A few shades to play with:

So you wear a purple-gray smoky eye shadow? Tell us the name in the comments!

Summer Headache Relief

Head hurt? As temperatures rise, so do your chances of getting a pounder. Find out how to stop the brain pain

Paige Greenfield

You thought cellulite was the bane of bikini season, but summer's real trouble lands a bit higher up. According to a Neurology study, your headache risk jumps 8 percent each time the temperature climbs nine degrees. Heat may make the blood vessels in your skull expand and press up against surrounding nerve endings, creating a very sensitive situation.

As a result, even normal blood flow can feel like a jackhammer drilling through your cranium, says neurologist Alexander Mauskop, M.D., founder of the New York Headache Center. But although headaches are people's number one physical woe—and women get them more often than men do—you can stop the throbbing and get back to the beach.

Tension Headaches
These zingers, which feel like a giant rubber band wrapped around your brain, affect 78 percent of Americans and can strike up to 15 times a month. "They come from stiffness in your neck, forehead, scalp, and face," says Mauskop, as overly taut muscles irritate nerve endings, which relay pain signals to the brain. Anything from stress to fatigue can get one going.
Treat them: Pop an OTC painkiller—whether it's aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen—at the first sign of scalp tightness. You can also try massaging a muscle-relaxing lidocaine-based gel on your shoulders and neck, says Mauskop.
Prevent them: Start sweating! Sofa spuds are 14 percent more likely to get tension headaches than those who frequent the gym. Exercise is a natural stress buster that prompts your body to release painkilling endorphins, explains Merle Diamond, M.D., codirector of the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago. It also strengthens blood-vessel muscles against headache-inducing inflammation.
